How To Wrap a Column
We ship column wraps to homes all over the country every single day. Not sure how to get the job done? We’ve got you covered (wrapped?).
How To Wrap Porch Columns with PVC
The most common way to wrap an existing post is with our PVC Column Wraps. This is the fastest, easiest, and least expensive way to wrap a column or post. These wraps are not structural or load bearing. They are simply used to dress up a porch column and protect it from the weather (PVC isn’t going to rot). Another significant advantage is that these wraps ship knocked-down flat. That means they are much more cost effective to deliver to your home or jobsite. They simply come as four pieces of 5/8″ thick PVC with lock mitered corners. Slap them together as described here and your done.
The two main styles of PVC wraps are Square Non-tapered PVC Column Wraps, and Tapered Craftsman PVC Column Wraps. Typically the Tapered Craftsman style is used in conjunction with a Column Pedestal, while the Square Non-tapered versions are mostly used full-length.
How To Wrap Porch Columns with Fiber-reinforced Polymer (FRP)
Want to wrap your porch columns in the Greek or Roman style? Or want a square column wrap that is heavier, sturdier, and a harder material? Our Fiber-reinforced Polymer (FRP) columns have a stone-like feel and can be used as a wrap when you order them split, or cut in halves for reassembly. That way they can be used as a wrap around an existing post or other structural member. We can provide you with a Reassembly Kit that includes the materials and instructions on wrapping your columns. The result will be a classical column wrap that feels more like a traditional stone column.
How Much Does It Cost to Wrap Porch Columns?
The best and most direct way to determine cost is to click on the product listing you want and add it to your cart. We’ve provided an overview below. The cost to wrap a column of course varies by material and size, but here are some rules of thumb:
Lowest Cost: Square PVC Column Wraps. Example: a common 8″ x 8′ with trim runs in the $300-400 range.
Tapered Craftsman wraps are also cost effective and would be next up in pricing. A common example would be a 16″>12″x6′ with trim that runs in the $500 range.
Round Tapered FRP Columns would be the next step up in price. A common example would be a 10″ x 8′ with Capital, Base, split charge, and reassembly kit runs in the $600 range.
Towards the upper end of the cost range would be the Square Non-tapered FRP Columns. In the common size of 8″ x 8′ with Cap, Base, Split charge, and reassembly kit runs in the $700 range.

How to Wrap a Newel Post
What about a column or post that doesn’t go all the way up to the roof line? We call that a newel post. These terms can be confusing because so many of them are used interchangeably.
Our newel post wraps are also used as column pedestals. The PVC Pedestals are also decorative (not load bearing), but gives the appearance that the column is sitting on the pedestal. These too are made of 5/8″ thick PVC, just like our Square and Tapered PVC Column Wraps.
What Size Column Wrap Should I Use For My Existing Post?
Each of our column wraps have the internal dimensions listed in their specifications. Take a look at the inside dimension listed. The spec sheet can be found on each product listing. We’ve also listed them here:
