4×4 Wood Deck Post

Specifications

A traditional turned or square deck railing post provides the strength and support for your balustrade.  These cedar newel post designs match our stock spindle designs and create a beautiful flow-through effect when installed. No post cap is required – the balltop is turned on the post itself as one solid piece.

Actual Width: 3 1/2″ wide.  Specify 48″ or 60″ tall.  Use with our 4″ class Porch Rail Systems.  Made of CLEAR Western Cedar.  Made of one solid piece of wood; NO finger joint lamination which means they will look and last better over the decades.

Bottom square portion: 16″ (48″ Newel), 28″ (60″ Newel).
Turned portion: 15″
Top square portion: 12″
Balltop portion: 5″

The 4×4 deck post anchor fits 3 1/2″ wood posts.  It features a steel tube that drives up inside wood posts creating beautiful and strong anchoring connections.  This deck post fastening kit includes a Post Anchor, fasteners for wood, and instructions.  Concrete fasteners are not included.  To install, you’ll need a 1 1/4″ dia. x 1 7/8″ deep hole saw (not included, available at any hardware store).  This product has been independently tested according to establish procedures set out in the IRC for the USA and CBC for Canada.  It can be used as a code compliant post anchoring component in one and two family residential guard rail applications when installed according to these directions and conditions of use:
USA:
Max rail height 36″ (42″ California)
Max 4×4 post spacing 6′ (4′ California)
CANADA:
Max rail height 42″
Max 4×4 post spacing 6′ o.c.
Max rail length from fixed end (corner) to a fixed end 36′
Max rail length from fixed end to unfixed end 18′

PRIMING OPTION (recommended): Premium primer in flat white available as an option, which allows for immediate installation. Our primer is applied in a light and proper manner. We do not apply our primer too heavy; we apply it correctly. It is normal to see wood grain through the primer after application. If you would like a thicker application, this can be achieved by using additional light coats of your paint. Expect some blemishes in the primer from shipping.  This is normal and will not affect the finished result when painted after installation.
